What is Anxiety?
It’s a feeling of fear, dread, uneasiness, and being overwhelmed…
It might cause you to sweat, feel restless and tense, and have a rapid heartbeat…
It can also be a normal reaction to stress. For example:
- You might feel anxious when faced with a difficult problem at work,
- Before taking a test,
- Before making an important decision, or
- Hearing about a new government or health crisis affecting you and the ones you love.
In fact, while most people believe these anxious feelings are normal and a part of today’s life… NOTHING could be further from the TRUTH!
Understanding Anxiety, and Techniques That Can Help Control It
Most people have experienced some of this in their lives. Usually about an upcoming event or anything that involves an uncertain outcome.
An article in Dialogues of Clinical Neuroscience reported that anxiety disorders are among the most common psychiatric conditions.
Even the National Institute of Mental Health estimates that 19.1% of adults in the United States alone have experienced an anxiety disorder in the past year… With women experiencing more anxiety than men.
Know the Symptoms and Levels for Anxiety
1 – Anxiety Symptoms
As noted above, it involves feelings of worry, fear, nervousness, and unease.
But, depending on the level of symptoms, it can cause serious cognitive and emotional problems… treatment for anxiety will vary depending on the severity.
2 – Minor Anxiety Symptoms
Ordinary feelings of anxiety come and go, and typically do not interfere with everyday life.
Factors like moving to a new place, taking a test, and starting a new job commonly trigger minor symptoms. These are a few of the things we’ve all experienced.
Sometimes, if that falls into this category, it can end up motivating us to do a better job or try harder… or left unattended to, can lead to more serious health problems.
Minor anxiety symptoms to be on the lookout for include:
- Uncertainties about your ability to finish a task,
- Low levels of apprehension or fear,
- Minor sensations of sweating and muscle tightness.
3 – Clinical Anxiety Levels
When these levels rise to the point that they bring on Panic Attacks, your internal “911 Alert System” needs activation. More importantly, panic attacks can cause impairment and quickly decrease the ability to function.
These symptoms are common for those who have been medically diagnosed as having an ANXIETY DISORDER!.
Clinical anxiety level symptoms to carefully monitor include:
- Having trouble concentrating,
- Feelings of being out of control,
- Bodily sensations like shortness of breath, trembling and sweating,
- Digestive issues that may include a lack of appetite, constipation, or diarrhea.
Medications vs. Alternative Therapeutics
Traditionally, most Doctors with prescription powers, tend to favor prescription medications for their clients.
And in the right cases, several types of medications are available to help relieve these symptoms. But, prescriptions will vary depending on the type of disorder and whether you also have other physical or mental health issues. Different types of antidepressants are also prescribed to treat anxiety disorders.
Note that in some severe cases, doctors may even prescribe other medications, including sedatives (benzodiazepines) or beta-blockers. When prescribed, these medications should be a LAST RESORT and only be used for short-term relief of anxiety symptoms.
That said, Prescriptions may ONLY be a Band-aid solution, and not the BEST option for everyone suffering from anxiety.
So, before going the Prescription route, check with your health care advisor on effective non-prescription medication strategies that you can use to help cope. This includes both the short and long-term ones listed below:
1 – Lifestyle changes
- Following a healthy diet
- Staying active with exercise (e.g., walking, yoga type stretching, swimming, etc.)
- Meditation
- Prayer
- Getting enough quality sleep
- Not drinking alcohol
- Avoiding or limiting caffeine
- Stop smoking
2 – Additional minimizing anxiety techniques
Incorporate one or more of these minimizing techniques, such as breathing exercises, mindfulness journaling, practicing gratitude, and distracting yourself… just heading outdoors for a walk, even a short one, may be a stress-relieving distraction.
3 – Hemp Oil for Anxiety and related conditions
Hemp is among the most researched cannabinoids derived from the Cannabis sativa plant. Studies have shown that Hemp, a non-psychoactive compound, can help with anxiety and other related conditions.
Hemp OIL for SAD Symptoms
Hemp oil has beef found effective in Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). A 2011 study researching Hemp’s effects on people with SAD found that participants that received an oral dose of 400 milligrams of Hemp (instead of a placebo) experienced an overall reduction in anxiety levels.
Hemp OIL for PTSD Symptoms
Hemp oil has also been found effective in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Numerous studies have shown that Hemp can help reduce PTSD symptoms, including nightmares and replaying stressful memories. These studies researched using Hemp as both a standalone PTSD treatment and a supplement to conventional treatments. These include cognitive behavioral therapy and medication.
